At the sixth sitting of the first session of the People’s Majlis held yesterday, Hon. Abdulla Rifau MP for South – Maafannu questioned Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ms. Aminath Athifa.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ms. Aminath Athifa answered the question posed by Hon. Abdulla Rifau MP for South – Maafannu, regarding the comments made by the Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation about the changes that the government plans to bring to the 2 room flats been constructed under the ‘Hiya’ program. Minister of Housing and Urban Development also answered the follow-up questions posed by other members.
In addition, under Article 75 (c) of the Regulation Governing the Proceedings of the People’s Majlis, the proposal for carrying out the plenary debate on the Bill on Juvenile Justice Act and Bill on Associations Act submitted on behalf of the government by Hon. Moosa Nizar, MP for Keyodhoo was passed unanimously with 25 votes in favour. 11 Members spoke on the Bill on Associations Act while 5 member spoke on the Bill on Juvenile Act. Later, the Majlis passed to accept the Bill on Juvenile Justice Act unanimously with 59 votes in favour and Bill on Associations Act unanimously with 57 votes in favour.
Furthermore, the report by the Committee on Independent Institutions on the nominations sent by the President for the post of Member of Elections Commission as per Article 4 (B) of the Elections Commission Act (Act No. 8/2008) was presented during today’s sitting. However, due to a concern raised by the Leader of MDP Parliamentary Group regarding the committee report, voting on the Bill was postponed.
